Reliance Retail to promote, sell bakery products made by Tihar prisoners




 Reliance Retail today said it has joined hands with Tihar Jail to promote and sell bakery products manufactured by prisoners.

"Reliance Retail has entered into a unique partnership with TJ's for their food product line such as bread, cookies, cakes, namkeen, biscuits, rusks, loaves," Reliance Retail said in a statement.

TJ's is a non-commercial and non-profit brand with a wide range of products, which are manufactured by inmates in Tihar Jail factory.

The pilot project was launched by Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar at the Reliance Fresh store at Zamrudpur in South Delhi.

The items will also be available in other Reliance Fresh stores in the Capital, the company added.

Started in 1995, TJ's has evolved behind the walls of Tihar Jail with the inmates making a range of products such as bakery items, spices, stationery, furniture, blankets, garments and detergent.

The portfolio has expanded to include handloom and textile, apparel, furniture, mustard oil, stationery paper products and phenyl for household uses.

TJ's revenue has touched about Rs 18 crore in last financial year as compared to Rs 2.36 crore in 2004-05.
